We woke up to a pretty good rain so we decided to pack up our stuff inside the tent while we were still dry. This was pretty difficult considering the tent was so small and we were both trying to accomplish the same tasks of rolling and packing our sleeping bags and sleeping pads along with all of our clothes. We waiting to pack up the tent until after breakfast plus we both had to pee really bad.

Breakfast was a breakfast burrito and it was damn good! There was left over fixings though no shells so Aidan, Chris and Mary helped consume the left overs so we didn’t have to pack it out which some was packed out as trash.

Since it was raining, we packed the body of the tent up while the rain fly was still up to prevent the inside of the tent getting wet. Shocker, the tent got wet inside regardless of our efforts. We made the trek back in the direction we came from originally. The spot where we were supposed to set up camp was flooded and river was really high so we opted for a higher tundra ground. It was also super foggy so visibility was very poor which also played a factor in our camp decision.

Tundra – its like little tiny succulents everywhere

Once we made camp, we had some hot drinks to warm us up. This was the coldest and wettest of the days and the likelihood of hypothermia was pretty high. We had two options, warm up in our tents (it was only 4pm) until dinner or go for a hike. We all opted for the hike and we did it without any packs which was a nice change.

During our hike, Mary educated us on the different flowers that were growing in the area and we also foraged blue berries which were not quite ripe but still very good.

Getting back to camp, we had about an hour to kill before they were going to get started so Brandi and I went to the tent to dry off and warm up before dinner. My boots were completely soaked and every time I took a step, water smushed from my socks and inserts. Luckily I had 2 additional pair of dry socks with only one day of hiking so I put on a dry pair and put my boots back on. Yes, my socks were instantly soaked again but at least they weren’t as bad as before.

Our last group dinner was beef enchiladas. As in the first night, there was a bunch of left overs which Aidan proceeded to finish both my and Brandi’s remaining food. After dinner, everyone was pretty quick to retire to their tents. My sleeping spot was on a mound so it wasn’t super comfortable but I was warm and ended up sleeping really really good.

Sad that our hike was coming to a close however, we all were looking forward to a hot shower and clean clothes!
