I had gone through, at the beginning of last week, what my weekly routine would be for the most part. With that said, shit always comes up nor can you perdict weather so being agile in change is key.
My first three days went according to plan from a scheduling perspective. I did run for the first time in almost 2 years on Wednesday afternoon which was the first time in probably 5+ years that I’ve done a two-a-day workout. I managed a 5k between walking and running with the majority of the that spent running. Man was I tight right afterward. I did make a point to stretch before and after however that run took a lot out of me as most runs usually do. I have a feeling I will be slow at getting back into this exercise.

Thursday is my morning swim though it was supposed to rain and if there is lighting, they won’t open the pool. Since I was tight from my run the night before, the potential of not being able to swim, and the fact I was going to do a Kettlebell workout with Alex instead of our typical yoga, I decided I would do yoga in exchange for my swim. It just so happened it didn’t rain and Alex wanted to do hot yoga instead of kettlebells so I went for a brisk walk to loosen up a bit instead. BTW- hot yoga was hard AF and I left super drained from 2 days with 2 workouts each day. Being 40+ is no fucking joke!

Friday I woke up even more tight and sore from Wednesday and Thursday and considering I haven’t had an active recovery day in over a week, I decided to do some slow stretching routines. This was MUCH needed and a great reminder that I need to incorporate more of them.
Saturday was a complete change-up. Since I wasn’t able to swim on Thursday and we were planning on a hike on Sunday due to the nice weather, I decided to swim. I wanted to extend my swim to 45 minutes since the 30 minutes I had been doing was feeling great. Yeah, I made it 35 minutes before I thought I would pass out from hunger. All in all, it was a good session though I didn’t last as long as I would have liked in the steam room for warm-up, laps for practice, and hot tub for cool down.
Note to self: Saturdays are not good days to swim laps due to water classes and lap lines being closed and MAKE SURE YOU EAT BEFORE!
Sunday was a BEAUTIFUL day which is why we decided to go hiking. The trail we were on was super flat and paved so I would consider it more a walk than a hike but who’s keeping track? We did a 4.5-mile loop with the dogs. The extension of my workout was hand washing my truck. My arms were dead after that so I would say a whole-body workout!

Let’s see what next week has to bring!
