Week 2 of this awful cold and it is literally kicking my ass all over the place. I met up with my friend Roberto for a bike ride on Sunday but prefaced it with I am sick and don’t know how well this is going to go. We had to stop a LOT and we went really really slow. Thankfully he was a good sport and went at my pace. I’m sure he felt like he got a good ride in (insert rolling eye emoji here). I did not make my 3 hours but came close at 2 hours and 40 minutes so not a complete loss.
I actually felt worse on this Monday than I did the last to the point of me telling my boss I need to come in late to get more sleep. She basically forced me to go to the doctor and I’m glad I did. They gave me an inhaler because they were concerned that I would get pneumonia, mucinex nasal spray, and sudafed- the good stuff to get me better. I still did my training though it wasn’t great. My runs were slow, my swims were nonexistent (I did’t think a swim would be a good idea since I had an uncontrollable cough) and my bikes were extremely taxing. This week was so much worse than last week – my lungs and head hurt and my body was exhausted. However, my lifting was where I excelled. I was pretty surprised but went up in weight each day.
Friends told me I should stop training and let my body recover from my cold but hey, my doctor told me that I could and should do something just not strenuous. Ok I don’t know what that means. Yes, I know the definition of the word but I’m saying I don’t know how to practice it. I’m all in so none of this half assing bullshit. I am training after all which means if I need to do a 7 mile run then damn it I’m gonna. Hind sight I probably should have done a 3 mile run due to how hard taxing it was on my body but I can’t change that now.
I only hope that this cold is gone soon because I can’t handle the way I feel much longer. Here’s to hoping!
